Spotify introduces new chat feature: here's what you can do with it

Music service Spotify is introducing a new major feature. With the new chat feature, users should send each other music. Not only sending music is possible, chatting can now be done simply via the Spotify app.

Spotify with chat feature

More and more apps allow you to chat with your friends. Of course via apps like Facebook, WhatsApp and Telegram, but think also of apps that were actually meant for 'something else', like Instagram. Spotify is now also following this path, rolling out its own chat feature from next week. The messaging service should become available in the music service's mobile apps. The service will be available to both free and Premium users, the Swedish service announced.

It will not be possible to chat with just anyone through Spotify. Only if you have created a playlist together, or if you follow each other can you send each other messages. The sender must then first send a message request to the recipient. If this is accepted by the recipient, you can start sending messages. Via the chat function, you can send each other content from the streaming service. For instance, you can share music, but also audiobooks or a podcast. You can also send a message yourself. These are one-to-one conversations only. Group chats are not possible as yet. It is also not known if this is in the pipeline.

The feature will be rolled out from next week, and will also be available in the Netherlands.
