Spotify with Lossless Audio
Originally Swedish music service Spotify has good news for users of the service. From now on, the rollout of Lossless Audio will begin. With Lossless streaming, the sound quality goes up a lot. It uses the FLAC file format and supports up to 24-bit and 44.1kHz. When the feature is available, you can set it in Spotify's settings, where you can then select 'Lossless'. On every device, you need to enable this. According to Spotify, this option should provide a new, richer listening experience.

Because the files are larger than 'normal' songs, there may be some delay when starting a song. It may also not work as well with a Bluetooth device. This is because Bluetooth does not offer enough bandwidth to deal with Lossless audio. The feature will become available to Premium users of Spotify at no extra cost, but the rollout will be phased and take a few weeks.
You can use Lossless in Spotify in the mobile apps for smartphone and tablet, the desktop and with various Spotify Connect devices. Support for Sonos and Amazon will follow in the next month, but if you have a Sony, Bose, Samsung or Sennheiser product now, you can already use it with Lossless audio straight away.
