Samsung's tri-fold smartphone appears in video

A video posted online shows the new design of a foldable from Samsung. This is a device with a so-called tri-fold screen, or three foldable screens. We saw the technology before, but now it gets a lot more concrete.

Tri-fold smartphone from Samsung

Samsung is working on a new foldable, so-called tri-fold phone. Korean media has published a video showing the new design. DroidApp already published this video of the imaging technology, where Samsung Display showed the design at the 2023 Mobile World Congress. Now it is getting more concrete. Huawei already has a similar device in home country China, and Samsung will follow suit.

Once unfolded, a 10.0-inch display will appear, with the device also becoming very thin. Exact sizes are still missing, but the current foldable, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is only 4.2 millimetres thick. When folded, this device would be around 12-15 millimetres thick. What is noticeable in the video is that the screen edges are thicker than on the Fold. This appears to be an early generation, so things may change in the final model.

The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold, as the device might be called, will have three cameras, along with a screen at the back. Like the current foldable, the fingerprint scanner will be on the side. Despite the video giving some better information, it is not yet known when Samsung will announce the new phone.
