Samsung works on One UI 8.5 and gets Liquid Glass from Apple (video)

Recently, iPhones and other Apple devices have been updated with iOS 26, which gets the Liquid Glass interface. Samsung itself now seems to be enamoured with the glass design, and is working on it for the update to One UI 8.5.

Liquid Glass in One UI 8.5

Android manufacturers are only too happy to look at what Apple is up to. Because while mud is regularly thrown at Apple, plenty of things are adopted. We saw that today with Xiaomi, which announced the Xiaomi 17 series with even the naming scheme copied from Apple. Now Samsung seems to be next on the list.

Samsung One UI 8.5

One UI 8.5 will be the new version of Samsung's own Android skin. The new skin will feature several changes. There is talk of the quick settings panel being more customisable. Furthermore, a big change seems to be imminent for the gallery app and now we are getting information about another big change. The Liquid Glass interface, which we know from Apple with iOS 26, will also be introduced in One UI 8.5. This is evident from images that have appeared online. Both in a photo and a video.

The changes to the interface will bring, among other things, rounder shapes to the settings menu, larger spacing between items and also new animations. Samsung will move the search bar to the bottom. It was also at the bottom with One UI 8, but then only in the app menu. So now it will also be on the home screen. In terms of features, not many changes seem to be coming.

In the video, we see an early test version of One UI 8.5. As a result, you may miss certain features, or there may be bugs. Several applications will be updated with the new design, which we will see in the Phone app, for instance, with the floating tab bar. Also, the brightness slider seems to be made vertical, as Apple does on the iPhone.

The Samsung Galaxy S26 series will be the first series to feature One UI 8.5, it is expected. Then, presumably, we will also get the announcement of One UI 8.5. Since it will be some time before Samsung announces these new phones, it is still quite possible that some things will change in the development of One UI 8.5.
