Samsung halts updates for Galaxy A52s, fewer updates for S21 FE

Samsung has quietly updated its update policy for two of its smartphones. For the Samsung Galaxy A52s, updates will stop, while fewer updates will appear for the Galaxy S21 FE from now on.

Fewer and no updates

Changes have been made by Samsung to the update schedule for its various devices. In the case of the Samsung Galaxy A52s, this means that updates will no longer appear for the device. The device was released in 2021, with the promise that it would be updated with updates for four years. That has now happened. The smartphone was recently offered the September security update and runs with the Android version on Android 14. For now, this does not make the device obsolete, but it may be advisable to look in the coming months for a new smartphone that gets updates again. Among others, Samsung offers the Galaxy A56, which gets seven-year updates. This includes both security updates and Android updates. We recently published the Galaxy A56 review.

Not only is something changing for the Galaxy A52s, the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE is also getting changes to its update policy. Whereas the phone was previously updated every month, from now on this smartphone will receive a new security patch once every quarter. Incidentally, the phone is still in line for the update to Android 16 with One UI 8, which is expected in the coming months.

The changes around the update policy are effective immediately.
