'Samsung opts out of Galaxy S26 series plans due to iPhone 17'

Samsung and Apple battle year in, year out over who has the best smartphone. Apple recently presented its iPhone 17 series, but Samsung is also coming out with a new range of high-end smartphones. Plans for the Galaxy S26 series have been changed, howe...

Other plans for Galaxy S26 series?

Judging from new reports, behind the scenes at Samsung, changes and preparations are still being made for the Galaxy S26 series. More than once the smartphones in the series have passed in the rumour circuit, but it really goes in all directions. For instance, it was previously suggested that the Galaxy S26 Edge was not coming, and then it was. But rumours about other models are also all over the place. Some time ago, news appeared about the Galaxy S26 Pro, but according to the latest reports, Samsung would abandon it.

Now the Samsung Galaxy S26 series is back in the news. Indeed, Samsung is said to have adjusted its plans for the release of these phones, based on Apple's announcement. Samsung would now opt for the Samsung Galaxy S26, the Galaxy S26+ and the Galaxy S26 Ultra. This means Samsung is sticking to the same models as in the current Galaxy S25 series.

Samsung was reportedly planning to release a thin Galaxy S26 (not the Edge), but now rumours report that Samsung is opting for a slightly thicker one. According to reports, the device will be 7.24 millimetres thick, while 6.96 millimetres was first intended. To offer a competitor to the iPhone, the Galaxy S26 will aim to focus on price with a 4300 mAh (instead of 4900 mAh) battery and possibly a larger screen. These ideas were first conceived for the Pro, for which a higher price could therefore also be demanded, but that does not seem to be happening now after all. This follows Apple releasing an improved base model with the iPhone 17, without a price increase.

The announcement of the Galaxy S26 series is reportedly in February, which is later than usual. Samsung itself has not yet responded to the rumours, and usually never does. So we will have to wait and see, what Samsung's plans are.
