Samsung shares official update plans Android 16 with One UI 8

The arrival of Android 16 with One UI 8 is getting closer for Samsung's Galaxy devices. The manufacturer shares the news that the official rollout of the update has begun for the Galaxy S25 series. In addition, the brand shares plans for updating devices to the latest software version.

Android 16 plans from Samsung

Samsung's plans for rolling out Android 16 with One UI 8 have finally been revealed. The manufacturer started distributing the update for the Galaxy S25 series today. However, at the time of writing, the update is not yet available in the Netherlands, but that will not be long in coming. One UI 8 features more new AI features and, of course, the news of Android 16, which we could previously experience on the latest foldables. We wrote about this in the Galaxy Z Flip 7 review, among others.

One UI 8

Samsung is now sharing more information in a press release about when we can expect the update for various smartphones and tablets. This week, the update will become available for the Samsung Galaxy S25 series, consisting of the Galaxy S25, S25+, S25 Ultra and the Galaxy S25 Edge. Without naming a specific date, Samsung informs that other models will follow later this year. Specifically, these are the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy S24 FE, Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6. The recently announced Galaxy S25 FE already runs on Android 16 out of the box.

Devices getting Android 16

In the overview shared by Samsung, the manufacturer reveals that this year the update to Android 16 with One UI 8 will be introduced on the following models; Galaxy S25 series, Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Z Flip 6, Galaxy S24 FE, Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5, Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy S22 series, Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Z Flip 4, Galaxy S21 FE, Galaxy Tab S10 series, Galaxy Tab S10 FE, Galaxy Tab S10 Lite, Galaxy Tab S9 series, Galaxy Tab S9 FE, Galaxy Tab S8 series, Galaxy A56 5G, Galaxy A36 5G, Galaxy A26 5G, Galaxy A17 5G, Galaxy A17, Galaxy A07, Galaxy A06 5G, Galaxy A55 5G, Galaxy A35 5G, Galaxy A25 5G, Galaxy A16 5G, Galaxy A16, Galaxy A15 5G, Galaxy A06, Galaxy A54 5G, Galaxy A34 5G, Galaxy A73 5G, Galaxy A53 5G and Galaxy A33 5G.

A list of dates on which Samsung would like to roll out the update appeared earlier. According to new reports, this would have changed slightly. It is now said that the S24, S23 and S22 series will get the update in October, as will the Fold and Flip 6, and Tab S10 and S9 series. In November, the Flip/Fold 5 and 4 would get the update.

One UI 8

New features abound. For instance, the Flip 5, 6 and 7 models get the updated Now Bar on the external screen with real-time app activity and the media player, for instance. Also, there is Now Brief with personalised daily updates. On the security side, Knox has been expanded. Samsung is adding Gemini Live to One UI 8 to enable natural communication with AI. Circle to Search is also present again. According to Samsung, One UI 8 is tailored to the different sizes of tablets and smartphones, making the operation of these devices even easier.
