New reports from a usually reliable source about the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7. The brand's new foldable smartphone will be very thin. It will be quite a bit thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold 6, the Korean manufacturer's current foldable device.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 gets thinner
Samsung seems to be taking its next step in foldable technology with the Galaxy Z Fold 7, and this time it is mainly about size. According to a new report from reliable source Ice Universe, the device will have a remarkably slim profile. This would make the Fold 7 the thinnest foldable smartphone at launch.
Once folded, the Fold 7 would be just 8.9 millimetres thick. When unfolded, that would decrease to 3.9 millimetres. This puts the device ahead of many competitors. For example, the Oppo Find N5, currently the thinnest foldable smartphone, comes out at 8.9 mm folded and 4.2 mm unfolded. Only the Huawei Mate XT remains slightly thinner when unfolded at 3.6 mm, but as a whole, the Fold 7 offers an impressively balanced profile.

Previously released renders
If these figures are correct, it means a big improvement over Samsung's own previous models. Indeed, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 was 12.1 mm thick when folded shut and 5.6 mm when unfolded. Older rumours still assumed other dimensions, such as 8.2 mm closed and 4.5 mm open, but the new information seems more concrete.
What also seems certain is the battery capacity of the Fold 7. Like previous models, the device would get a 4400 mAh battery. That information was previously confirmed via an official listing with UL Demko, an inspection body.
While many other details of the device are still missing, Samsung seems to be focusing mainly on design refinement with the Fold 7. The device will not only be flatter, but with it, possibly lighter and more pleasant to use.
Exactly when the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be released has not yet been announced. Samsung is expected to officially present the device around the summer. The new Galaxy S26 is also supposed to be thin, the source reports in advance. Further details are not shared about it.
