80 levels in Pokémon Go
Niantic is the developer of several games, including Pokémon Go, and for the popular game, the game developer has made a new announcement. From Wednesday 15 October 2025, players will be able to grow further than they have so far. The level cap will be raised from level 50 to level 80, with the maker promising to rebalance the entire level curve so you can step up more often. This means changes are on the way for challenges and rewards.
What will change?
With the change, the Level-Up Research tasks for levels 41 to 50 will disappear. However, new tasks will be added for levels 71 to 80. From level 70, players will have more chances to become Lucky Friends with other players. From level 25, you can unlock additional avatar items. Niantic reveals that there are further new level-up rewards such as more storage space for Pokémon, items and gifts.
Some Pokémon Go players will automatically skip some levels on 15 October. You will then immediately get the corresponding rewards. You won't drop in levels, but it may affect the amount of XP you need to advance. This depends on your current position.
Due to the change, on 14 October, at 23:59, every player will receive a medal for the highest level he or she has reached. This will be from level 1 to 50. If you have made it to level 50, you will get a Level 50 jacket and a new avatar pose. After the update, you can no longer earn the coat, though you will keep what you have unlocked before.
XP Celebration event
Niantic wants to make the transition to the new system easier, and so you can take part in the XP Celebration event until and 11:59pm on 14 October. You will then get several perks;
- 2x catching XP for beautiful, great and excellent throws
- +3,000 XP for winning raids
- +3,000 XP for Max Battles won
- Timed Research for players from level 5 onwards with over 7 million XP in rewards
Finally, Niantic reveals that it has made an adjustment to Level-Up research at level 47. You no longer have to explore 25 kilometres eight times in a week, but twice.
The change in Pokémon Go will be implemented automatically in October; you don't have to do anything yourself for this.
