Pixel Feature Drop September 2025
Google has announced the new Google Pixel Feature Drop with the start of September. This means a major update for the Pixel models. Not just the smartphones, but also, for example, the Pixel Buds and Pixel Watch. The biggest improvement Android is getting is the Material 3 Expressive interface, which was previously announced with the arrival of Android 16.
Thanks to the presence of the new Material 3 Expressive skin, already available on the Pixel 10 series, Android looks completely different again. Google is rolling out a new design with several changes. You can already see these in our Pixel 10 Pro XL review, for example, but now also on the Pixel 6 and newer models. This translates into live effects of animations on the lock screen, such as weather effects and adding shapes. Furthermore, you can see the new design reflected in the quick settings and it also mentions the new calling cards in Google Phone.
Pixel Watch users also notice improvements. Cycling or walking navigation started on the smartphone will be instantly copied on the smartwatch. Furthermore, the Pixel Buds 2 Pro get Adaptive Audio and it intelligently adapts to its surroundings. The Google Pixel 8 and newer get LE Audio Auracast, which allows you to listen to broadcasts in locations with Auracast, such as airports. A second LE Audio Bluetooth headset can also be paired with the phone.
Gboard
Gboard is also being enhanced, with AI-driven writing tools becoming available for other Pixel devices. By looking for the pencil with the glittering icon, you can choose different options. Including using a different style, working with emojify or shortening a text. There is also a new design for Quick Share.
In the coming days and weeks, the update will be rolled out for the Pixel 6 and newer. As mentioned, the Pixel 10 series is already equipped with the new features, these devices will be updated with the September update though.
