Satellite SMS on your Pixel
If you find yourself in an area that lacks mobile coverage, you can use satellite in some cases. Telecom provider Orange is coming out with a satellite SMS service in December. First to become available for the Google Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 series. You can use the feature if you don't have mobile coverage but still want to send an SMS. This also works in countries where Orange does not offer a mobile network. This only involves text messages.
For the satellite connection, Orange works with Skylo's network. Google already uses this network for Satellite SOS on the Pixel Watch 4. Orange will later make the feature available on non-Pixel devices. Satellite SMS will work in the Netherlands and 36 other countries. These include France, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, the United States and Canada. As long as Skylo coverage is available, you can send a message using this option.
Orange offers the option to customers with Orange 5G, and it is free for the first six months. After that, the feature will cost €5.00 per month. The feature will be available to Pixel users from 11 December.
