'One UI 8.5 details reveal Galaxy S26 Ultra with 60W charging'

Several brands offer smartphones that you can recharge at lightning speed. Samsung is still a little less of a believer in this, currently sticking to a maximum of 45W on its flagship model. The Galaxy S26 Ultra may be able to charge even faster, according to new indications.

Can the Galaxy S26 Ultra charge even faster?

Samsung remains quite modest when it comes to fast charging of its phones. The Galaxy S25 Ultra, the high-end smartphone of the moment, for instance, sticks to a maximum charging speed of 45W. The upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra seems to take this up a notch. This is evident from indications of One UI 8.5, Samsung's new skin, which is expected at a later date.

Indeed, One UI 8.5 talks about a faster charging speed for the high-end smartphone to be announced next year. Indeed, Samsung is said to want to equip the Galaxy S26 Ultra with a 60W charging speed. That is a definite advance by Samsung standards. Still, it is less than several other brands offer. For instance, OnePlus, Motorola and Xiaomi regularly see devices with a charging speed that comes out to 80W (like the OnePlus 13) and 120W (like the Poco F7 Ultra).

While the 60W charging speed is a definite step up, it seems Samsung is still a bit cautious about the new battery technologies and features. This is not very surprising, given the huge debacle with the Galaxy Note 7. It remains to be seen whether Samsung opts for so-called silicon carbon batteries, which are now on the rise, in the S26 series. A larger capacity will therefore take up less space.

The Galaxy S25 series was announced in January. We also expect the Galaxy S26 series around that month, in the new year.
