Pretty often, you immediately recognise a Motorola device as one from this brand. This is no different with the Motorola Edge 60 Pro. In our extensive Motorola Edge 60 Pro review, we discuss the new phone in detail. What does the smartphone have to offer?

Motorola Edge 60 Pro review

Motorola releases a new Edge series every year. So recently it was time for the new Edge 60 series, where we previously took a look at the Fusion. You can read our findings from that in the Motorola Edge 60 Fusion review. In recent weeks, we have tested the Motorola Edge 60 Pro extensively. Time to share our experiences with you.

Unboxing

The fun starts with unboxing the Edge 60 Pro. This is because the smartphone comes with the necessary items already. For instance, in the package we see a case that protects the back, in a matching colour, a USB-C cable and some paperwork. A SIM needle is also already at the ready.

Design and interface

We wrote earlier that the design of the Edge series is quite recognisable as Motorola. We have the Motorola Edge 60 Pro in the green khaki colour, also called Pantone Shadow. It is something different from black or white and looks nice and sleek. Because the back is made of vegan leather, you also have plenty of grip on the device. What stands out is that the device is nice and thin and also lightweight. The device is 8.2 millimetres thick and weighs 186 grams. Thanks to its IP68/69 certification, the device is resistant to dust and water.

The Motorola Edge 60 Pro features a 6.67-inch screen. This is a pOLED panel with a resolution of 2712 x 1220 pixels. On sunny days, the screen is perfectly readable in terms of brightness. In the dark hours, such as in bed at night, we still find the brightness a bit on the high side. This could have been lower. The screen runs down the sides. It looks neat, but personally I find a flat screen a bit more pleasant.

Motorola Edge 60 Pro menu

We will talk about the camera later in the Motorola Edge 60 Pro review. At least on the side, there is room on the right for both the power button and the volume keys. On the left is the AI key. It's a shame that you can only use it for Moto AI options and cannot assign it to, say, your favourite app.

Interface

Motorola's interface looks neat, but the minimalism of a few years ago, has changed a bit lately. This is due to the presence of Moto AI. As we mentioned in the Edge 60 Fusion review, we see the necessary aspects of it in the interface. The news feed and search bar at the bottom of the screen are a case in point. Although most functionalities do not yet work with the Dutch language, the search bar in the menu is handy for instantly finding an app you need. Dutch language is on the way though, Motorola previously indicated to DroidApp.

Motorola Edge 60 Pro notificaties

In the interface, as you might expect, you have access to your notifications and quick settings. In addition, the Motorola offers handy Motorola tools. Think of shaking the device to activate the torch, or twisting the wrist to launch the camera.

Communication and multimedia

Making calls, texting, surfing the internet... it's all no problem with the Motorola Edge 60 Pro. Besides space for a physical SIM card, Motorola also offers space for eSIM. Call quality is good and of high quality. Internet can be accessed in the familiar ways and is via 5G or via a maximum WiFi 6 connection. Of course, NFC and GPS can also be found on the device. Mobile payment is therefore not a problem.

If you like listening to music, the Motorola won't exactly disappoint. On board, we find stereo speakers whose volume can be loud enough. At full volume, it sounds more than good, and the Edge 60 Pro provides rich sound. The screen, too, is fine for multimedia and easy to read even on summer days.

Camera

Taking photos is an important feature for many smartphone users. On the back, there are three cameras. These are a 50-megapixel main camera, a 50-megapixel wide-angle lens and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens. That telephoto lens lets you zoom in 3x. As we have come to expect from Motorola, the camera app is user-friendly and self-explanatory.

But what about the photo quality? Looking at the photos from the main camera, we are satisfied. The smartphone takes nice photos with quite rich colours. In nature photos, we see good exposure between both nature and sky. Sometimes there is a tinge of grey in the photo, but we don't find it very distracting. In the evening and night, the Edge 60 Pro also takes really good photos. Nice colours, good lighting and little noise. The atmosphere is really conveyed very well, which we secretly didn't quite expect from a device with this price.

We do find the Motorola Edge 60 Pro's wide-angle lens a bit less attractive. In terms of colours, it sometimes differs quite a bit from what the main camera captures. In addition, the photos look a bit grayer. The telephoto lens is of a high standard though, even in the dark hours. Photos are rich in detail and nice in colour.

Selfies are also taken with a 50-megapixel lens. The quality of these is quite fine, but does not match the quality achieved by the main camera.

We took the photos below with the Edge. If you want to see more photos, the digital photo album is full of photos taken directly from the device.

Video camera

Filming is done by the Motorola Edge 60 Pro in a in 4K resolution at 30fps, or at 60fps in Full-HD. The video camera delivers fine footage, but the microphone seems to be a bit sensitive to wind. The video below was taken directly from the device.

Performance and battery life

Motorola has chosen a MediaTek Dimensity 8350 Extreme octa-core processor for this device. The processor can keep up with the tasks just fine and we haven't noticed any annoying hiccups or other issues over the past few weeks. The device feels nice and fast. This along with the 12GB of working memory.

Storage space comes out at 512GB, and this immediately gives the device a nice generous amount of memory. We see this, especially in this price range, quite a bit differently. For the user, this leaves about 487GB.

Bloatware

We have mentioned it before with various Motorola devices; the devices come with quite a bit of bloatware. This is no different with the Motorola Edge 60 Pro. Several games are already installed by Motorola, as are several apps from Motorola itself. During setup, the phone also tries hard to push its way through to install even more apps. Really not necessary. Users find their way around the Google Play Store just fine.

Battery

A large battery does not mean that every phone has a long battery life. The Motorola Edge 60 Pro boasts a massive 6000mAh battery. Motorola has the power management perfectly under control. That means you can enjoy the Edge 60 Pro for a long time on a single battery charge. Two days with average use is really no problem. Even with heavy use, you still have more than enough battery charge left at the end of the day. We note a screen time with intensive use on mainly 5G of 5-6 hours, and that's really very good. Fast charging is no problem either. The phone supports 90W charging or 15W wireless charging.

Energy label

Since June, it has been mandatory for manufacturers to include the energy label with a device. This gives users insight into the device's energy consumption. It also highlights other issues. In Motorola's case, the Motorola Edge 60 Pro scores an A rating with a promised battery life of 67 hours and 47 minutes. In terms of repairability, the Edge 60 Pro comes in at a B rating. You can find all the details on the European Product Register website.

Update policy

Unfortunately, the Motorola Edge 60 Pro still falls just outside the EU's mandatory five-year update scheme. Motorola does have a clear update policy for the smartphone. The smartphone gets three Android updates (Android 16, 17 and 18) and four years of security updates. Given the price, that's nice, but it would have been even nicer if Motorola had already pre-empted European regulations and promised five-year updates. Thereby, Samsung itself gives much cheaper devices seven-year updates. Work to be done for Motorola!

Motorola Edge 60 Pro review

Review

With previous devices, Motorola has already proved that the brand is perfectly capable of delivering good smartphones. In recent weeks, the Motorola Edge 60 Pro absolutely managed to live up to this. It is a very pleasant, handy device that is very good in specifications. I always use a high-end device myself; but for less than half the money, everything I do I can do this just fine with the Edge 60 Pro. Battery life is insanely good, fast charging is nice and smooth, the camera is fine and there is plenty of storage available right from the start. We haven't come across any real drawbacks. Pity is the less generous update policy, but other than that: top phone.

You can buy the Motorola Edge 60 Pro at Coolblue, Belsimpel, Mobiel, MediaMarkt and Bol.com.
