LG announced a few years ago that it would stop releasing smartphones. This despite having released a lot of great products from the Korean manufacturer. In a few weeks, LG will also pull the plug on the servers used for updates.
No more updates for your LG
LG has announced that it will stop offering software updates for phones as of 30 June 2025. This permanently closes LG's smartphone book. LG was one of the first manufacturers to release Android phones, with the LG GW620, for example. In the process, the brand contributed to the Nexus series, came up with the ThinQ models and the placement of buttons on the back, as with the LG G2. The LG G4 stood out with its leather back and the LG G5 with its modular body. Earlier on DroidApp, we published an 'Ode to LG', where we looked back at all the great things LG has released.

In April 2021, LG announced it was permanently discontinuing its smartphone business. The South Korean manufacturer saw no more opportunities in the segments and decided to close the book. At the time, it was announced that no new phones would be released, but the current stock of devices remained available for sale. The last smartphone LG released was the LG Wing.

If an update is still available for an LG device, download it before 30 June 2025. After that, the update server can no longer be accessed. If you are still using an LG smartphone, it is advisable anyway to check whether the device has received a security update recently. Phones that have not received an update for a long time may be unsafe to use.
