Instagram comes with location sharing and new Repost feature

New features have been announced for Instagram. The photo app will be enhanced with a new Repost feature. This will allow you to see where your friends are hanging out by sharing your location. This and more new features can be found in Instagram from now on.

Sharing your location in Instagram

Instagram keeps adding new features; and this time, too. The photo app is expanding with a feature that lets you share your location with followers. It is a feature that users may already be familiar with from Snapchat. Your last active location can be shared on a map. Also, you can mark 'cool places' on the map and share them with others. Here, you can also choose not to share your (live) location on specific locations, or with specific people.

By default, sharing your location is turned off. When you use location sharing, the live location is updated when you open the Instagram app. Currently, this feature is only available in the US and will be rolled out globally 'soon'.

Repost

Another new feature that is readily available is Repost. Actually, this feature is best compared to Twitter/X's retweet feature. You will recognise this feature by the two arrows, below a picture of someone. A tap is enough to share the post again. Your followers will see it in their overview. Also, messages you have reposted are displayed in a separate tab on your profile. Photos will also show how many times they have been posted, and you can choose to add a thought using an emoji. You type this thought into the shared post.

Finally, there is a new 'Friends' tab in Reels. This lets you see the public content that your friends recommend, or that your friends like.
