Google's year in review
Google has published Year in Search 2025. In the annual review brought, we get insight into trends, popular searches and various other statistics. The company does this for our own country, the Netherlands, but also for other regions and countries. Things also happened in the past 12 months and the various items are listed by Google. What did we search for in Google Maps, which lyrics, TV shows and people were the most popular?

Worldwide
Gemini, Google's AI tool, was the most searched on Google. Followed by India vs England and Charlie Kirk. Iran, Kendrick Lamar, Ozzy Osbourne, actor Mikey Madison and the lyrics of Bad Bunny's song DtMF were also searched a lot. Arc Raiders, Battlefield 6 and Monster: The Ed Gein Story and Squid Game 3 ranked high in the lists. Humming to search for a song was also widely used. Massively, 'Hum to Search' was used for the song 'Golden' by HUNTR/X. Popular was also Ordinary by Alex Warren.
Google Maps was also widely used. Livraria Lello was the most popular bookstore, and it was found in Porto, in Portugal. The most searched for train station was Kyoto Station in Japan. The top 10 is almost completely dominated by Japanese stations. Only the fourth spot is a European train station: Gare de Lyon in Paris. We also searched for botanical gardens in Maps, with Lalbagh Botanical Garden in India being the most popular. In second place is Royal Botanic Gardens in the UK, while fourth place is for the magnificent Singapore Botanic Gardens.

Netherlands
In the Netherlands, Google saw other popular searches. In 2025, we searched "Stemwijzer" the most, but searches about Charlie Kirk, the elections, the iPhone 17 and D66 were also popular with the search engine. It also searched for famous people who died this year. These included Dieuwertje Blok, Ron Brandsteder, Manuela Kemp and Loretta Schrijver. We also searched a lot for K3, Rob Jetten, Marco Borsato and Martijn Krabbé. Further searches included Adolescence, Squid Game, the Champions League and Quincy Kluivert.
The most popular questions that kept the Netherlands busy were;

- What time does the Song Contest start?
- What is a pulmonary embolism?
- Why is Israel attacking Iran?
- Why doesn't King's Day fall on a Sunday?
Belgium
There is also news about our southern neighbours. In Belgium, people searched for Charlie Kirk, Tomorrowland and Ed Gein. Baret de Raes, Wendy van Wanten and MrBeast were also frequently consulted via Google.be. The most popular questions in Belgium were;
