Google discontinues weather app for WearOS smartwatches

Do you regularly check the weather forecast on your smartwatch? Then that could soon be over and done with. This is because Google is discontinuing the WearOS app of Google Weather. Still, this news has some snags, according to information.

Is Google discontinuing its weather app on smartwatch?

Is your WearOS smartwatch running on WearOS 6 or higher, such as the new Galaxy Watch 8? If so, the Google Weather app will no longer be offered in the Google Play Store. According to the company, there is no longer a need for Google's weather app and smartwatch manufacturers generally choose to install their own weather app. Those who have previously installed the Google Weather app on the smartwatch can continue to use the app for now. It is not known if that will change in the future.

Google Weer WearOS

If you still want to know the weather with a smartwatch running WearOS 3 or above, Google recommends asking Google Assistant or Gemini, Google's AI tool. However, users with WearOS 5 or earlier can still just download the app. Those with WearOS 6 and above will be directed to the new Pixel Weather app. It will also be updated automatically via the Google Play Store.
