Google has updated the familiar Google icon, also known as the big ‘G’, to a new version. We know this icon from the Google app. It is not directly a huge change, but it has become a bit fresher again.
'G' logo in new
Google has revamped its app icon. The familiar 'G' icon gets a fresh look, with the distinctive four colours blending together in a more subtle way. This is a refined change that is especially noticeable to those who look closely.
The new version of the icon retains the familiar colour scheme - red, yellow, green and blue - but instead of four separate colour areas, the colours now gradually flow into each other. For instance, red merges into yellow, yellow into green and green into blue. This creates a more vibrant and modern effect. The change fits well with Google's current visual style, as seen in the so-called Gemini gradient and AI mode in Google Search, where similar transitions are used for shortcuts.

This is the first time since 1 September 2015 that the 'G' icon has received an update. Back then, the entire Google logo was given a major overhaul with a switch to the modern Product Sans font. Even the icon then underwent a major change: from a small white 'g' on a blue background to the circular design that has served for the past decade.
Remarkably, Google's main logo, the six-letter wordmark, remains unchanged for now. It is not yet clear whether other products, such as Chrome or Maps, will receive similar updates in the near future. In theory, those logos too could benefit from the same visual refinement.
The new logo has now been implemented in beta versions on iOS and Android.
