Google further expands AI Mode to the Netherlands: here's what you can do with it

Google's AI Mode in Search is no longer limited to English-speaking users. As of this week, the feature is available in more than 200 countries and territories, including the Netherlands, and the service supports more than 35 new languages.

AI Mode available

AI Mode replaces traditional search results with summaries generated by Gemini, Google's advanced AI model. Instead of clicking through several links, you get a clear answer to your question immediately, with links to relevant resources below.

The feature is available through the Google app and in the web browser. You can use AI Mode for a variety of searches: from product comparisons to planning a holiday or looking for specific recipes. After an initial answer, you can also ask follow-up questions to delve deeper into the topic.

Multimodal search experience

AI Mode takes advantage of Gemini's multimodal capabilities. You can not only type, but also use your voice or upload pictures. For instance, you can add an image of a plant or gadget and ask for more information or alternatives.

Google stresses that thanks to its modified Gemini model for Search, the system better understands how local languages work. As a result, the AI can recognise nuances and context, making answers feel more natural and relevant - including in Dutch.

Better support

According to Google, people in AI Mode ask almost three times longer questions than in traditional search. This is because the AI can summarise complex topics and make connections between different sources. By expanding to more languages and regions, Google aims to make this experience accessible to everyone, regardless of language or location.

Availability and future

The rollout of AI Mode started this week and will become visible to more users in the coming days. It is important to have the latest version of the Google app. Soon, you will also be able to use AI Mode via the address bar in Google Chrome, allowing you to search, talk or analyse images directly with Gemini.
