Changing your email address at Gmail
Google will make it possible to change your email address at Gmail. This is according to updated text on Gmail's support page. The rollout of the functionality has now begun, although it is not yet available in many European countries. When it will be, is not yet known.

The advantage of changing the e-mail address, is that the old e-mail address remains available to continue receiving mails on. So it remains active, while you can mail from your newly chosen mail address. After choosing a new e-mail address, it is not possible to delete it for a year. Also, after creating a new Gmail address, no other new mail address may be created. According to Google, after changing it, it is possible to log in with both your old and new mail address.
Gmail has long offered an option to forward mails to another Gmail address, and respond from your own mail with that mail address as well. This change makes it possible to also keep all active services like Google Play, Google Drive and the like with choosing a new Gmail email address.
