Gmail introduces new notifications for attachments on Android

If you use Gmail on your Android device, you will notice that improvements are made every now and then. Now, mail service Gmail has ready another improvement. Notifications of emails that have attachments will be improved.

Gmail improves notifications with attachments

If you use Gmail, you may soon come across revamped notifications. In future, when you receive an email containing an attachment, a thumbnail of that attachment will be displayed, so you won't have to open the whole email first. So you will immediately see what is in the mail, although for now it seems to only work with images, which are added as attachments. In the notification, you will see the photo in full size when you swipe open the notification.

Other attachments do have other improvements. For a document, you will see the file type and file name in the notification. So although it is not visually noticeable, you can immediately see what kind of document is coming in. Although this is a handy improvement, there is also a downside. The preview text from the mail disappears in the new notifications. It is not known whether Google is making any improvements to this for the future.

The feature is available with a handful of users, but a wide rollout does not seem to have started yet.
