Samsung's target market was mainly those looking for a smartphone, with a first introduction to Android. This meant getting started with apps, which you could download from the Android Market. The Galaxy Apollo offered support for the 3G network, as well as WiFi and Bluetooth. Hotspot functionality only came with the update to Android 2.2 Froyo. Location tracking was of course via GPS, so you could also get to work with Google Maps. At the time, the functionality was even more limited in terms of navigation.

The smartphone offered a 3.2-inch TFT display, with a resolution of 400 x 240 pixels. Over Android 2.1 Eclair lay the TouchWiz interface. This featured a proprietary design. For taking photos, the Galaxy 3 featured a 3.2 megapixel camera, but lacked a flash. A front-facing camera was also not found on the phone. Storage space was limited to 512MB, but could be expanded with a memory card. Samsung placed its own single-core processor (667 MHz) in the device, along with 256MB of working memory. You could swap out the 1500mAh battery.

In the summer of 2010, the Samsung Galaxy 3 Apollo i5800 was released. You had to shell out around 200 euros for the smartphone.
