Over a decade ago, there was a new smartphone from Honor; the Honor Holly. The device, released in 2015, was released in the affordable smartphone segment. But what did you get for less than 150 euros? We discuss the Honor Holly in our section ‘The forgotten smartphone’.
Honor Holly
Honor has released a lot of different smartphones in previous years. Back then, we published the necessary reviews on the brand's devices. Meanwhile, Honor still makes smartphones, and although it has been separated from Huawei for some time now, Honor is not exactly a big player in the Dutch market anymore. The brand itself doesn't really seem to be working on that either. Time to look back. In our section, we have already mentioned the Honor 6 and the Honor 7, for example, but today we take you to the budget segment, to the Honor Holly.

The Honor Holly appeared in 2015, and DroidApp published the Honor Holly review of it. The device appeared in the affordable segment with a recommended price of 140 euros. For that money, you got a compact device with really fine specifications. There was a 5.0-inch LCD display with HD resolution. The smartphone offered a MediaTek quad-core processor with 1GB of RAM and there was 16GB of storage. You could easily expand this with a memory card of up to 32GB.

With the Holly, you could access the 3G network, but you could also access the internet via WiFi. Available in black and white, the Honor Holly offered an 8-megapixel camera on the back, and a 2-megapixel camera for selfies. Filming could be done in Full-HD quality. Still curious how the photos were? The Honor Holly photo album is still online! Furthermore, the device was equipped with a 2000 mAh battery. Like other Huawei and Honor devices, the Honor Holly was also equipped with Emotion UI (later EMUI), on top of the Android KitKat interface.

In our test, the Honor Holly stood out positively for its value for money and excellent battery endurance. Useful further was the dual-sim support. This is what many Huawei and Honor smartphones were known for; something many devices did not support at the time. Honor also provided the phone with an LED notification, so you instantly knew if you had a new notification. Less convenient were the touch-sensitive keys that were not backlit, the camera was also disappointing in terms of quality and the speaker was on the back. This often blocked out the sound when you had the device in your hand or, conversely, on the table.
