The forgotten phone: Nokia 7610 Supernova

In ‘The Forgotten Phone’ the necessary devices pass by. This week, it is time for the Nokia 7610 Supernova. The Supernova series appeared over 17 years ago. What can be said about this phone from the Finnish manufacturer?

Nokia 7610 Supernova

Finland's Nokia came out with the Supernova series in 2008. A series that consisted of several devices with a focus on so-called 'fashion phones'. These had to rely on design and colourful accessories. It was not necessarily an extensive line. Five Supernova handsets were launched, including the Nokia 7610 Supernova. We will discuss it today in 'The forgotten phone', because chances are you had already forgotten about it.

The Nokia 7610 Supernova was a so-called slider-phone, i.e. a phone that you could slide open. This made it a completely different phone from the Nokia 7610, released in 2004, which stood out because of its special design, which we wrote about a few years ago. The slider was nice and compact, measuring 98 x 48 millimetres. However, like many sliders, the device was quite thick, 15 millimetres. The weight came out to around 99 grams.

Nokia provided the phone with a 2.0-inch screen, with a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels. Along with this, there was 64MB of storage space. This also stored the pictures you could take with the 3.2 megapixel camera. However, there was still an option to expand the memory with a memory card. Notable was the presence of a dual-LED flash. Also, you could easily upload captured photos to photo service Flickr. The battery capacity came out at 860 mAh. There was also a simple music player and an FM radio with RDS support.

On board the Nokia 7610 Supernova was the Series S40 platform. There was a simple browser and support for Java apps, with Snake, of course. What was interesting was the presence of the Theme Colorizer. You could use this feature to infuse a colour from the wallpaper into the style of the device. Furthermore, the Nokia was equipped with TV-out and you could change the back of the device with XpressOn covers.

Nokia's phone was released for around 200-250 euros.
