First rumours about OnePlus 16 emerge

OnePlus is making headlines with the new OnePlus 16, which the smartphone manufacturer will release at the end of this year. The focus will be on performance, screen and camera. What is there to report about the new device?

OnePlus 16

OnePlus is working on a new flagship for the second half of 2026, according to recent rumours. The upcoming OnePlus 16 is said to get some notable upgrades in terms of performance, cameras and screen technology.

New chip with focus on AI

The device would be powered by the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro. This chip is produced using a 2-nanometer process and supports the new LPDDR6 working memory. That memory is rumoured to be capable of a bandwidth of up to 14.4 Gbps, almost double that of previous generations.

The higher speed should especially help in performing generative AI directly on the smartphone. With that, AI tasks can be processed locally without depending on remote servers.

Camera with 200-megapixel zoom lens

On the camera front, the OnePlus 16 would also make a big step. According to rumours, the device will get a periscope telephoto camera with a resolution of 200 megapixels. This may make use of the Samsung HP5.

Besides this telephoto lens, the camera setup would consist of two 50-megapixel sensors: one for the main camera and one for the ultra-wide-angle camera. With this combination, OnePlus aims to further strengthen its position in the higher end of smartphone photography.

Screen with high refresh rate

The screen of the OnePlus 16 is said to consist of an OLED panel with a resolution of 1.5K. The refresh rate could go up to 200 or even 240Hz, according to rumours. This could be especially interesting for gamers, as a higher refresh rate ensures smoother images.

For unlocking, the device would use an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor placed under the screen.

New software and possible price hike

The smartphone is expected to run on OxygenOS 17, which is based on Android 17. Due to rising costs of memory modules, the price could be slightly higher. In China, the base model with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage would cost around 5,000 yuan, which translates to around 630 euros excluding VAT.

The official presentation in China is expected in October 2026. The global launch of the device would likely follow a month later, in November.
