With the advent of European energy labels, we get a better picture of certain aspects of a smartphone. Think of battery consumption, for example. The labels for the Pixel 10 have now come online. What does the battery life promise compared to the Pixel 9 models?
Energy labels reveal Pixel 10 series
Since the end of June, manufacturers have been required to share an energy label with new smartphones sold in the EU. This lists several things. These include battery life, how easy a device is to repair and whether it has IP certification. The new labels of the Pixel 10 series have now been discovered, and the results are now becoming clear.
All three Pixel 10 models receive an A rating for durability: they withstood 270 drops without breaking. For repairability, they receive a B, which is a slight improvement over last year's Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL, which were still rated C. In terms of battery life, the Pixel 10 comes in at 49 hours and 23 minutes per charge, according to the test. The Pixel 10 Pro achieves 51 hours and 9 minutes, while the Pixel 10 Pro XL lasts 48 hours and 39 minutes. The EPREL test simulates a standardised, typical usage scenario, but the figures indicate relatively light usage.
It is quite possible that software-wise things are being improved in the final model and that this was a test version, or that under different usage a completely different picture emerges.
Differences
Putting these results alongside those of the Pixel 9 series, it is noticeable that performance hardly differs. The differences in battery life between the 2024 and 2025 models amount to only a few minutes. For example, the Pixel 9 lasted 49 hours and 12 minutes, compared to 49 hours and 23 minutes for the Pixel 10. Earlier in June, there were rumours of larger batteries, including a 5200 mAh battery in the Pixel 10 Pro XL, the largest that Google would put in a phone so far. However, these EPREL results give no immediate indication that this will ensure longer usage times in practice.
