Android 16 arrives in June: wide rollout in summer

Android 16 is coming sooner than expected. During Google's The Android Show, the company revealed that it will start distributing the new Android version as early as next month. At the centre is the new Material 3 Expressive design.

Android 16 comes earlier

An earlier release of Android 16, Google has announced tonight. A new Android version previously appeared towards autumn, but that is going to change this year. Whereas Android 15 became available in October, Android 16 will come out in June. This means we can expect the update to Android 16 on the first devices as early as next month. The new Android version will be available for Pixel models from June.

Material 3 Expressive

A specific date has not yet been shared by Google. The date of 3 June is circulating in the corridors, but this has not yet been confirmed by Google. Chances are we will get to hear this information during Google I/O next Tuesday. Android 16 will feature the new Material 3 Expressive design, where Google has put a lot of work into personalisation.

Google reveals that the rollout for other devices, for example Samsung's, will start this summer. This while Samsung has just well and truly started the rollout of Android 15. In the process, manufacturers will again work on their own skins. Samsung, for instance, has been in the news recently with its new One UI 8 skin.
